FLORIST ASSISTANT INTERNSHIP

Internship Description:
Every year the World Family Policy Center hosts a forum at BYU. Over one hundred United Nations and government officials attend this event. The position of a florist is essential in ensuring that our guests feel treated with high regard. As a florist intern you will be responsible for designing, assembling, and maintaining flower arrangements throughout the forum. Some of the tasks include designing centerpieces for lunches and dinners. You will also be in charge of creating flower decorations for the courtroom where the forum is held.

Qualifications:
Experience in designing and assembling flower arrangements of various sizes.
Due to a variety of events you’ll be designing flower arrangements for, you must be creative.
Extensive knowledge of flowers (for example, which flowers last longer or have very strong smell).
Ability to create a masterpiece and stay within the budget.

Qualified candidates should be personable, dependable and able to work well under pressure. Individuals should also be able to work well with others, as they will be involved with a design team.

Hours/week:
The forum will be held July 7-9. The preparations for the forum (designing, ordering flowers, etc.) should start 5-6 weeks in advance. Your hours will vary depending on the workload. During the forum you need to be available in the mornings for maintenance of flowers in the courtroom as well as before/after lunches and dinners for set up/take-down.

5-6 weeks June – July 2008

Compensation:
Our currency is the form of experience interacting with high-level diplomats, providing opportunity for meaningful contribution to the Forum environment, and very strong resume-building experience. Not to mention wonderful memories!
